John Grooms was born in 1847 in Franklin County, Ohio, to Peter Groom and Louisa O'Harra. He married Anna Sullivan (1856-1902), the daughter of Wesley Sullivan and Marianne Fitchman. They are buried in Dublin Cemetery, Dublin, Ohio. John and Anna Grooms had the following children.

Everett Pierce), Bessie Viola (1909-1963, m. Roy Keller, buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Ross Co., Ohio), and Lewis Earl (1916-1916)
2. Peter Sellman Grooms (1873--1949) married Susan Althouse ( 1882-- ? ), daughter of Daniel Althouse and Susannah Wyant. They resided in Dayton, Ohio but are buried in Dublin Cemetery in Dublin, Ohio. Their children include Esther (1905--? ), Wesley S. (1906-1986), Gladys (1909--1998), Anna (1910--? ), and Francis I. (1913--? )
3. Marilla Grooms (1877--1957) married 1. George Pendleton (1878-1945) and divorced then married 2. Peter Nelson (1883-1935).
